Propaganda from the Capitol: First 'Mockingjay' Posters

First Posters for Film 'Celebrate' Citizens of Panem's Various Districts

Editor's Pick

These first posters for Mockingjay Part I -- Lionsgate's first of two installments of the "Hunger Games" trilogy finale -- set the tone for the film perfectly. They're done in the style of propaganda from the fictional Capitol of the story, "celebrating" citizens of Panem's outlying districts (who, as we all know, are ruthlessly suppressed).

As you might expect from the affluent, fashionable Capitol, they're beautifully styled, but if you look closely, all is not as glossy as the Capitol would have you believe -- the man from the lumber district has a prosthetic leg, and the child from the coal mining district is ragged and dirty. The posters don't feature any of the film's stars, like Jennifer Lawrence -- but fans who know the stories and get the underlying theme will probably appreciate them all the more for that reason.
