Thought we'd seen all possible permutations of the vending machine? Think again. Lyle's Golden Syrup dispensed some warmth to commuters on a frigid winter's day this morning at London's Victoria Station, with a vending machine that gives out free syrup if you smile at it. The six-foot-high "Smyles" machine (a replica of Lyle's well-known green-and-gold tin) uses facial recognition technology to detect a smile and pours out syrup onto a free mini-bowl of porridge. Mischief PR co-ordinated the stunt, which is designed to cheer up those depressed by January and help people feel better by starting the day with a smile.
