British singer Ellie Goulding is the latest celebrity to take part in one of MasterCard's Priceless Surprises -- and while the campaign has been going for a while, it's still got the ability to make heartwarming viewing.

In this film, by McCann London, Goulding surprises best friends Martha and Lucy, a pair of 20-year-old students and amateur acapella singers, who think they're recording their cover of Goulding's new track "Army" for a documentary about music superfans.

During their recording, a curtain lifts on their recording booth to reveal they are actually on stage, performing in front of a live audience, including friends and family. However, this isn't the surprise -- Goulding herself then steps on stage to perform the track (which is all about having the support of a best friend) alongside them.

Perhaps the secret to these films is that, unlike so many "stunt" ads, the fans' reactions are always genuine and authentic, and in no way does the surprise look faked. With this one, directed by Blake Claridge at Craft London, there's an added commercial element for Goulding, who is busy promoting the new song -- and is nominated at this week's BRIT music awards, sponsored by MasterCard.
