Matt Richardson: Descriptive Camera

Words, not pictures

Published on

Editor's Pick

Here's an interesting new angle for photographers -- a camera that prints out descriptions of what it sees, rather than pictures. The device, developed by Matt Richardson, an Interactive Communications graduate student at New York University, sends pictures to the web. They are then described within three to six minutes by users of Amazon's 'Mechanical Turk' service (in which people perform menial tasks for being paid small sums of money). The short description is then sent back to the camera and printed out using a thermal printer.
