Marking its sponsorship of Toronto Pride, Mercedes-Benz has created a moving short documentary that features an artist creating a mural for the LGBTQ2 community.

In the film, directed by Mark Bone from Revolver for BBDO Toronto, we see interviews with different people about the homophobic abuse they have suffered in their lives: from having a locker defaced in high school to having their garage vandalized. The film reveals the mural, created by artist Thomarya "Tee" Fergus and inspired by their stories.

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the mural, painted on the exterior of a warehouse in Toronto, and documentary at a small screening on June 22.

"It's easy to ignore hateful words when they're not directed at you," said Dan Gaede, VP-creative director at BBDO Toronto, in a statement. "With this project, we wanted to share stories from people who are targeted and demonstrate the real impact of hateful speech. We also want people to know they are loved and accepted regardless of their identity. In addition to combatting the negative speech, hopefully this will inspire more positive conversations."
