To promote Windows 8, Microsoft teamed with Mother New York to create Microtropolis, a 160 foot art installation version of NYC which it calls "Manhattan experienced through Windows".
The installation, running at the Hudson River Park from October 26 to November 3, recreates Manhattan's avenues, streets and skyscrapers, thanks to Windows devices placed on rooftops in 25 neighborhoods within the city. Different Start Screens curated by "notable New Yorkers" will reflect content from throughout the city.
The exhibit will host specific curated talks and events, such as famous New York movies screened via XBox at the installation, and those not able to come can send in live tweets to the space using the hashtag #microtropolis.
Microtropolis is part of the global launch campaign for Windows 8; ads in the US are being created by Crispin, Porter & Bogusky, in Latin America out of JWT Brazil and in China out of JWT China.
