This Chilling Short Film About a Suicidal Gay Teen Will Make You Contemplate the Value of Art

PSA out of Production Company Backyard Examines the Suicide Risk of LGBTQ Youth

In this short film from New York-based non-profit Mythic Bridge, a distraught gay teen paces an urban rooftop. We hear the voices in his head -- the harsh, disapproving voices of family members -- and we glimpse a final text message he's tapped out on his phone: "I'm sorry. I wish I could have been different. I won't disappoint you anymore. I wish I could've been better... I love you."

He comes to the edge of the building and we see the pavement far below. He pauses, and over the cloudy sky above him a message appears in stark type: "LGBTQ YOUTH are 4X MORE LIKELY to ATTEMPT SUICIDE than THEIR SRAIGHT PEERS."

He leans forward and...

... you'll have to watch the video to learn how the story ends. But here's a hint: the PSA is part of the "Change the Script" campaign from creative agencies Rabbit, Rabbit & Partners and Happy United, and per their statement, "The piece takes a meta approach to peer into Mythic Bridge's youth filmmaking workshops" and is ultimately about "the power of storytelling to affect change."
