Binge-Watchers' Brainwaves Power a Symphony Promoting Netflix Show Sense8

Fans' Brains Were Linked, Just as on the Show

To promote its sci-fi show Sense8, which is about people with mysterious telepathic links, Netflix used the brainwaves of a bunch of strangers who had binge-watched the show and turned them into a musical experience.

The Sense8 Brainwave Symphony, created by production company Tool, involved eight people linked mentally (as the characters in the show), but in this case, with EEG sensors and their recorded brainwaves were used to compose a piece of original music, to create, according to the brand, "a tangible artistic manifestation of their connection." The participants watched excerpts from the show and were exposed to various stimuli, like light, sound, graphics and even scent.

According to Netflix, all eight strangers experienced common responses to the stimuli, demonstrating mental threads they shared with the rest of the group, as well as unique responses to the stimuli that only they experienced. The track is available on Spotify.

Sense8 launched on Netflix in June and was created by the Wachowskis (The Matrix trilogy) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Changeling, Thor).
