Is This Another Neon Shoe Ambush?

Remember the London Olympics, when not-a-sponsor Nike cleverly circumvented the rules by creating a neon-bright shoe that was worn by many of the athletes on the field, garnering it plenty of attention at a fraction of the cost?

Well, the unveiling of the "Magista" soccer shoe might be this year's neon ambush. The brand has launched a spot for the soccer boot, which was unveiled by Andres Iniesta of FC Barcelona earlier this month. It features shots of players from all over trying out the shoe, then complimenting it. At the end, the spot declares that "Soccer Will Never Be the Same Again."

Of course, Adidas is the official sponsor of the World Cup. (See its marketing campaign for the official ball, Brazuca, here.) But if Magista takes off, Nike might have itself another winning campaign.
