Nissan staged a live Facebook stunt in the run up to last Saturday's UEFA Champions League Final, in which the trophy for the soccer final went on a magical mystery tour around Cardiff.

As the official auto sponsor of the Champions League, the trophy is carried in a Nissan vehicle every year to the stadium. The brand ran a Facebook Live film on the day that showed it setting off in a Nissan Nissan e-NV200, the brand's 100% electric van, accompanied by a fan specially chosen to drive it and by former UEFA Champions League winner Edgar Davids. However, along the way, the van takes them to the wrong venue. It then has to travel in a number of different Nissan vehiceles -- a GT-R supercar, an X-Trail SUV that drives through a construction site and finally a helicopter -- to reach the stadium.

The live broadcast was hosted on the Nissan Excitement FC Facebook page, UEFA.com and Goal.com. TBWA's Nissan United team (including agencies TBWAG1, DanParis and TBWAElse) was responsible for the project, and Konrad Begg via Fredd Directors directed -- using in-car cameras, plus others on motorcycles and attached to the helicopter itself to make it all look as real as possible. The film was accompanied by "live" commentary by an increasingly shocked-sounding commentator, who does her bets not to make it look staged.

Jean-Pierre Diernaz, vice president, sales & narketing, Nissan Europe, commented: "Nissan wanted to celebrate the pre-match excitement of the UEFA Champions League Final in a bold way. Every year the trophy journey is a massive event followed by millions of people, and we wanted to make this even more spectacular for football fans who we know are so excited about the game already."
