Nordstrom Puts a Giant Instagram Image on its Seattle Rooftop

14,000-Foot Installation Promotes Retailer's Anniversary Sale

Nordstrom marked the start of its Anniversary Sale this week by recreating an Instagram post on a giant installation on the roof of its flagship Seattle store.

The nearly 14,000-square-foot installation features the retailer's Leith leopard- print dress, an item available in its sale, together with a wooden hanger and the blue Instagram logo. Creating the dress required 400 yards of fabric, while the hanger is made of real wood (Nordstrom says it will donate the materials to Goodwill to be recycled after the installation finishes). The store also filmed the installation via drone for this time-lapse video, which it broadcast on Periscope.

It seems stunts that mash up social media with the physical world are on trend in the fashion world this summer -- over in New York yesterday, Forever 21 unveiled a giant machine that displays people's Instagrams in spools of thread.
