NYC Ballet: Art Series Behind the Scenes

The New York City Ballet is aiming to widen the appeal of ballet to a younger audience with an Art Series featuring annual collaborations with contemporary visual artists. The artists will create original works inspired by NYCB that will be exhibited at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. For its inaugural year, NYCB partnered with FAILE, the Brooklyn-based urban art team of Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. Faile created print and out-of-home executions that will be will be viewable in New York neighborhoods where ads for Lincoln Center institutions are not often seen, such as Williamsburg, the Lower East Side and East Village.

Two special performances to commemorate the series were part of the effort. One, held on 2/1, like Faile's artworks, sold out in 7 minutes after they went on sale to the general public. Another performance, set for May 29 nearly sold out within three hours and was completed sold out by day's end. Audience members at the performances were, or will be given an original art piece by the artists.
