Campaign for Off the Street Club Brings Two Groups of Heroes Together

On this Veteran's Day, former military vets are the ones to help in this emotional campaign for Chicago's Off the Street Club, the city's oldest boys and girls organization, which provides refuge to kids in one of the country's most dangerous neighborhoods, West Garfield Park.

In the documentary-style film, we see a circle of vets sharing their sometimes frightening experiences while they were on duty. They're then called upon to read letters of others who have experienced tragedies of their own -- children who have seen shootings and violence right in their own hometown.

As they wipe tears from their faces, they're united with the heroes who wrote them -- children from Chicago's West Side. In bringing the groups together, OTSC is hoping to send the message that hope can emerge from even the direst situations.

Agency Energy BBDO created the campaign along with Licensed Clinical Social Work Charles Small and veterans' support organization the Mission Continues. The film sends viewers to the Off the Street Club website, where they can donate to the organization.

The effort is the latest in the "Hope Is Tougher" campaign for OTSC. Previously the agency had created a jarring bullet hole "monument" that turned an artifact of violence into a message of empowerment.
