Alan Rickman, the celebrated British actor who passed away yesterday, was known for many things, but he wasn't one for taking part in commercials. However, it has emerged that late last year, he provided a voiceover for this charity ad, created by OneClickGiving, a charity group set up by Oxford students. The ad features a tortoise munching a strawberry, as Rickman's distinctively silken tones informs us that the aim is to make a viral video; simply by watching the video, you're raising money for The Refugee Council and Save the Children, as all ad revenues collected from YouTube will be donated to these two charities.
The video went live on Dec. 15, and as yet has around 343,000 views. If it does now go viral, it'll be a fitting legacy for the actor, who is being widely hailed in obituaries as a kind and generous man -- unlike the characters he so often played.
