Blacks Don't Vote, Says This Stark Message Around the U.K. General Election

Latest Work From Operation Black Vote Includes Plea From Actor Riz Ahmed

Having urged people of color to vote with a hard-hitting poster during the Brexit referendum last year, Operation Black Vote has now turned its attention to the U.K. general election on June 8.

The new campaign by Saatchi & Saatchi London is based around the stark message: Blacks Don't Vote. It underlines the statistics: in the last U.K. general election, 1.4 million potential votes were not used by Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) individuals. Today, 28% of BME's are not even registered in comparison to 6% of white people and amongst Black Africans this figure rises to nearer 50%.

Two online films are also being released, featuring actor Riz Ahmed ("Star Wars," "The Night Of") and music mogul Jamal Edwards explaining these statistics and urging people to get registered to vote.

In addition, campaign posters will appear at large poster locations around the U.K. and will also be promoted on social media. The posters will display a simple non-branded black URL on a white background: blacksdontvote.com, directing people to the campaign website where they can click to register.
