Mobile Brand's 20th Anniversary Project Creates an Aged Version of You

Frane Telecom-owned mobile brand's Orange's best-known slogan in its early years was "The Future's Bright. The Future's Orange." So it seems fitting that this interactive project, built to celebrate the mobile phone brand's 20th anniversary, should be all about the future.

But this time, it's personal: the FutureSelf website takes you forward by 20 years and lets you talk to an older version of yourself.

First it uploads a photo of you taken with your webcam, confirms your age, gender and skin tone, then sets about creating an avatar of your future self, using technologies including aging simulation, facial recognition, voice recognition and real-time 3D rendering. Using your computer's mic, you can ask "yourself" questions about almost anything regarding life in 2034 and get replies. (The standardized responses were apparently written by a variety of humorists, and include hidden Easter eggs about celebrities, for example.)

The project was conceived by Publicis Conseil and built by Canadian production company Jam3 (profiled here). You can learn more about how it was done in a making-of video.
