Pantene's Water Conservation Bottle Comes Equipped With a Mini Hourglass

'ShowerGlass' Served as a Reminder to Cut Bathing Time Short

Today is World Water Day, so it seems appropriate to highlight this cool packaging idea from Procter & Gamble's Pantene, via Pereira O'Dell. Last fall, the brand rolled out in California a unique bottle with various Pantene Pro-V products. It came equipped with a tiny hourglass that would count down from five minutes -- alerting users of time they had left to take a shower while conserving water in the process. Cutting shower time from the usual ten minutes to five could save between 12.5 to 25 gallons of water, according to SaveOurWater.com, the California Department of Water Resources' website.

The packaging was distributed at various Vons Supermarkets in Los Angeles, which had long been stricken by severe drought, along with much of California.

In February, many parts of California pulled out of "extreme" drought mode thanks to record rainfall this winter, but P&G will continue its water conservation efforts, according to an agency statement.
