Meet 'Spire,' Pepsi's Answer to Coke's Freestyle Machines

Pepsi (finally) launches its own version of Coke's "Freestyle," four years after the latter introduced the personalized soda fountain. Pepsi's version, which is called "Spire," lets you create 1,000 personalized drink variations -- a raspberry Mountain Dew, or a flavored Diet Pepsi.

The Spire pours brands across the company's portfolio -- Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Brisk, SoBe, and more, as well as "flavor shots" including cherry, lemon, vanilla, strawberry, raspberry and lime. The beverage company worked with Firstborn on the fountain's whimsical digital interface.

Spire is currently available in select locations in the U.S. The company says it will continue to roll it out throughout the year.

In a statement, Brad Jakeman, president, PepsiCo Global Beverages Group, said "We are in the middle of an exciting evolution of personalization. The 'maker movement' has influenced the way people relate to brands and one another and design has infiltrated everything we consume."
