You can experience all manner of extreme sports in virtual reality these days -- and now you can see what it's like to take part in an exclusive and expensive sport too, as luxury Swiss watchmaker Piaget launches a virtual reality polo experience to promote its new Polo S watch.
Produced by digital production company Unit9 and directed by Anrick Bregman, the experience combines first-person POV shots (taken from a helmet cam on a jockey on a horse) as well as drone and third-person static rig shots, allowing users to experience the match as player or spectator. It also includes on-screen stats for the professional players featured in the film, to convey the sense of power and accuracy involved in the game.
The experience debuted at a launch event in New York City, where added effects included people feeling the wind rushing through their hair as they "played" in the match. It's also available for viewers to experience either as an online 360° immersive film or using Google Cardboard's VR viewer.
