An Ordinary Family Makes a Movie in Samsung's Funny Oscars Spot

Ad Playfully Shows You What Devices Can Do

Editor's Pick

Whereas its rival Apple's Oscars spot for the iPad was all about the serious business of filmmaking, Samsung had fun with the subject. Its ad, which features the brand's large Note phone and tablets, centers on an amateur director who decides to shoot an epic movie in her own home, casting friends, family and people who happen to walk in, like the plumber. The spot, by 72andSunny, both manages to entertain and show you what the different devices can do, as she grapples with the movie-making pitfalls of actors worrying about their motivation, casting, sex scenes, costume design and "taking care of it in post."

Samsung also debuted an ad for its high-definition TV model, SUHD TV, during the Academy Awards, featuring actors including Comedy Central duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele waxing nostalgic about their favorite movie and TV scenes.
