Samsung has created a prototype "Smart Windshield" for motorcyclists in Italy that connects their smartphones to their vehicles to making driving safer.

In Italy, using smartphones while driving contributes to 25 per cent of accidents among young motorists. The Smart Windshield, which was created in conjunction with Leo Burnett Italy, provides motorbike drivers with a windshield display including a GPS navigator, text messages, emails and voice calls. Motorcyclists can choose to stop and answer a call, or send an automated "I'm driving" message reply.

Samsung partnered with Edo Mossi, a rally and motorcross rider, and YouTuber Matteo Bruno, aka Cane Secco, to develop the system as part of its global "Launching People, Mixed Talents" campaign. Yamaha provided the Tricity 125 scooter to be fitted with the device. While it's just a prototype at the moment, Samsung is hopeful that the Smart Windshield could be the future of safer riding for motorcyclists.
