L.A.'s annual indie horror film festival, scheduled for Oct. 12-21 at the Mann Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, gets some early hype via these posters from Costa Mesa, Calif., agency Honest Mechanics. The images were shot at the landmark Fox Theatre in Fullerton, Calif., built in 1925, which has been closed since 1987 but is presently being restored. Besides being one of the oldest movie houses in Orange County, "it's long rumored to be haunted by ghosts from a fire that ripped through it years ago," explains designer Brad Sargeant. But a more tangibly distressed vibe was in order. "We know that horror posters don't work if they're too slick, so we gave it a tattered and pocket-worn effect, much like an old folded handout or a vintage one-sheet."
