SoBe: Reskin Yourself

Earlier this year at SXSW, Firstborn and Sobe invited Festivalgoers to "reskin" themselves with digital tattoos. At the SoBe kiosk, they could take a picture on site or upload a photo and then mold a tat of their choice perfectly onto the contours of their faces. Recently, the agency and Sobe launched the Reskin app online, inviting the rest of the world to adorn their own mugs. The effort is to promote the newly designed SoBe Tea & Elixir line, which boasts its own newly designed packaging.

As for how the app achieves such a realistic inking effect, Firstborn uses a displacement map filter in Flash to read pixel values and create the realistic contoured effect. A multiplying blend mode is then applied and redness opacity is dynamically adjusted.
