The Dude Just Isn't the Same in 'Gutterballs' Without Kenny Rogers in Ad From Sonos

Famous Scene From 'The Big Lebowski' Doesn't Cut it Sans Music

"Gutterballs," the mini movie-within-the movie from the Coen Brothers' 1998 cult classic "The Big Lebowski," depicted the film's slacker frontman The Dude in a drug-induced dance extravaganza set to the psychedelic tune "Just Dropped In," from the Kenny Rogers-led outfit The First Edition.

But the iconic sequence just isn't the same, without those acid sounds to accompany his hip swaying and heel clicking down the nightmarish black-and-white set. That's the point Sonos makes in a new ad promoting its new home speaker, Playbase, which sits under home television set and connect to other Sonos equipment to enhance the TV-viewing experience (while also streaming music services).

The ad pulls scenes from the original mini flick but, at first, leaves out the key audio elements -- a quick, and startling way to make its point.
