Spike Jonze's 'Her' is a Love Story We've Seen Before.. But Not

Featuring Joaquin Phoenix and the Voice of Scarlett Johansson

Editor's Pick

The trope of love between man and his artificially intelligent creation is a common one in sci-fi, but that doesn't make it any less fascinating, considering our hyper-connected reality today. And, in the hands of director Spike Jonze, it may turn out to be something completely out of this world, considering how compelling this trailer is for his upcoming film, "Her."

Jonze is no stranger to fantasy, having already proved himself on films like "Being John Malkovich" and "Where the Wild Things Are." This time, directing a story he wrote himself, he dives into weird love and tells the story of Joaquin Phoenix, a socially-awkward guy who sets up his own operating system-slash-friend, huskily voiced by Scarlett Johansson. But he ends up getting in deeper than he thought.

The film will see wide theatrical release on November 20 but will also close the New York Film Festival in October.
