Two years after it launched in Europe, Spotify is soon to hit America.

The Swedish music streaming service, which has 10 million registered users in Europe, is viewed widely as a serious rival to the likes of iTunes. It enables people to pick the exact music track they want to listen to and hear it, free, online in seconds. The free service - which will initially be available via invitation - is supported by limited, radio-style advertising, while two premium tiers let users listen without ads on computers and on mobile devices. Music can be browsed by artist, album, record label, genre or playlist as well as by direct searches.
