Squatty Potty, the maker of stools designed to help make your stool deposits a little easier, is hoping to add a new product to its line: a poop emoji plunger.
Brand-wise, it's a clever move -- presumably, customers will need something to unclog all those toilets the Squatty Potty has helped to stop up. (But it's also billed as a "multi-purpose" tool, so feel free to use it to remove unwanted hair from your drains as well.)
The company has less than a month -- until August 24th -- to reach its "Poo Plunger" Kickstarter goal of $70,000. The campaign debuted today and so far has about $3,000 in backing. At press time, only one early-bird pledge ($15 to get a plunger) remained. Next step up would be $20 for a single, followed by $35 for a "Number 2" pack which includes a couple.
If you're wondering why this hasn't been done before, it has. An inventor named Carl Hickerson launched his own Kickstarter campaign last year to debut a very similar device, but it only reached $8,712 of its $50,000 goal. "It was just a random idea I ended up taking and making something out of," Hickerson said.
Squatty Potty had reached out to Hickerson when researching its own tool and brought him in to partner on the product. He told Creativity he licensed his design to the company, which he believes will help the idea reach the masses.
Hickerson is actually selling his original PooPlunger for $20 on the site of his organization, Plunger Project, which donates 10% of all its proceeds (including projects made from Squatty Potty deal) to sanitation and clean-water initiatives. He'd created a limited production on his own during the product's initial marketing phase, but Squatty Potty will oversee distribution going forward if the Kickstarter reaches its goal.
