Starbucks is clearly hoping it can win over the Brits by appealing to their hatred of Monday mornings, in this new spot by AMV BBDO promoting cheaper lattes before 11am on everyone's least favorite day of the week. It follows consumer anger, protests and boycotts of the brand in the UK over its failure to pay enough corporation tax.
Starbucks recently agreed to pay more tax after a public outcry when it was revealed it had paid no corporation tax (the tax paid by businesses) for the past three years, partly as a result of channeling revenue through its subsidiaries in countries where tax rates are lower. However, this has done little to appease groups such as UK Uncut, which is campaigning against the British government's fiscal policies and has urged further consumer boycotts of the brand.
