That Monster in the Closet? It's Real.

Beautiful Animated Film Uses Familiar Childhood Fear to Illustrate Real Threat of Gun Violence

Published on

Editor's Pick

This beautiful film created out of Grey and directed by Hornet's Yves Geleyn tells the familiar tale of a boy afraid of the "monster in his closet." His parents assure him that his fears are unfounded. But the boy investigates for himself and unleashes a real beast that ultimately ravages him, and no doubt his entire family.

The charming storybook style of the film, replete with fanciful animation, featuring a whimsical soundtrack by Mutato Muzika's Mark Mothersbaugh and edited out of Cut+Run, serves as an effective redirect that intensifies the final, gruesome, outcome.

The film was created for States United to Prevent Gun Violence, for which Grey previously produced another shocking film, set in a run-of-the-mill office.
