The Surfrider Foundation is highlighting the dangers to marine life from littered cigarette butts with a print campaign that makes artwork out of the butts themselves.
The campaign, "Snuffed Out Marine Life," by Gyro San Francisco, turn the butts into sculptures depicitng a bird, a fish and a frog. It seeks to raise awareness of the problems caused by cigarette butts, which are the number one littered item worldwide, and open a dialogue about behavior change.
"There's been a cultural shift that has defined what types of behavior are just not acceptable anymore -- like not picking up after your dog or throwing garbage out the car window," said Gyro San Francisco President Drew Meyers. "We hope this awareness effort will help change behavior and make people think twice about flicking their cigarettes, especially for the sake of our planet."
