Seattle-based Hornall Anderson Design Works (HADW) has done an artsy rebranding of the Tahitian Noni line of health, beauty and wellness product packaging. Tahitian Noni, whose merchandise is derived from the allegedly miraculous tropical noni plant and its juices, sought a new look that would better reflect the French Polynesian heritage of its product, according to HADW. The solution was "a rich color palette with exotic images like the 'conch shell man,' which were taken from an oil painting specially commissioned for this project." Said painting is apparently Gauguinesque, but not too Gauguinesque. "The illustration style is intended to reflect a general Impressionist style, not specifically Gauguin's work," says project manager James Tee. "We didn't want to run into any trademark issues by getting too close to his particular style of painting. We feel that the subject matter alone is enough for consumers to make the implied connection on their own. In addition, the packaging system needed more vibrant colors and a more detailed brush stroke to create a literal and easily identifiable image than Gauguin's style would dictate."
