Here's proving that spec ads, when well-made, might get you an in with a company CEO. Tesla, the electric car brand that doesn't spend a dime on paid advertising, sat up and took notice when "Modern Spaceship," a minute-long spec spot
by two recent college grads, was released. Created by James Khabushani and RJ Collins, who recently started production company Everdream Pictures, the spot is about a space-obsessed little boy who gets into a Tesla, then imagines it's a spaceship.
The ad was shared by Tesla on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, and CEO Elon Musk even tweeted it out. The two creators also got a meeting with Mr. Musk, who hinted at a future collaboration with the duo later.
