The 2002 annual report for The Fresh Air Fund, designed by New York's Suka Design (www.sukadesign.com), has been selected as a winner by the Black Book AR100 Award Show and the Step 100 Design Annual. The not-for-profit Fresh Air Fund sought an annual report that would help raise funds as well as public awareness for the 126-year-old organization, according to Suka. "We felt that an emotional appeal was needed to create the proper tone and achieve the desired objectives," says Suka CD Brian Wong. Hence, statements from inner-city children begin with the words, "I never" and end with such phrases as "picked a daisy before" or "rowed a boat before." capture the experiences of children during their first trip to the country. Throughout the annual, photographs of kids who have benefited from The Fresh Air Fund, along with shots of celebrity hosts, donors and volunteers, convey the hopeful message.
