Editor's Pick

The Guardian is celebrating 100 years of aviation with an interactive website showing every plane in the sky right now. Users can explore the map, based on live data over 24 hours, and continue on to find out more about the history of aviation. The map shows both planes and routes, and one of its most striking aspects is how flights are concentrated in certain areas -- for example, the skies above Africa look virtually empty.
