The Guardian Encourages Citizen Journalists With App

GuardianWitness will include "assignments" set by editors

Published on Apr 18, 2013

Editor's Pick

The Guardian is encouraging ordinary readers to contribute even more to its "citizen" journalism with the launch of its Witness app. The app provides readers with a simple way to contribute video, pictures and stories, and browse all the news, opinions and creations submitted by others. Posts will be reviewed prior to being published on GuardianWitness, with the best pieces also featured on the Guardian site. People are encouraged to contribute to certain subjects with a number of "assignments" set by the editors, changing each week, ranging from topical news stories to types of photo or feature-type ideas.
