'The New Yorker' Marks Supreme Court Decision with Cover of Bert and Ernie Cuddling

But are they lovers?

Editor's Pick

Next week's cover of The New Yorker is this fantastic illustration by artist Jack Hunter, who drew Bert and Ernie cuddling in front of a television showing the Supreme Court. The image was originally submitted unsolicited by Hunter to a Tumblr. He said: "It's amazing to witness how attitudes on gay rights have evolved in my lifetime," and, "This is great for our kids, a moment we can all celebrate."

While the merits -- and accuracy of the cover -- might be up for debate (as Slate points out, it's been established they "do not exist beneath the waist,") it's still a strikingly different way to look at this historic moment.
