With free iTunes app Graff City, graffiti artists can 'tag' their work via iPhone and share it with a wider audience via email or social media. It's all part of a plan by the San Francisco Arts Commission to enable creativity while reducing costs - the city currently spends $22 million annually on graffiti cleanup.

Using the iPhone's accelerometer and augmented reality, the app allows artists to use their iPhone or iPod Touch like an aerosol can, virtually 'tagging' any wall or surface they select. Agency McCann San Francisco worked with graffiti artists to ensure it replicates the experience of physical tagging. The app will be incorporated into the city's StreetSmARTS and Where Art Lives programs, which aim to nurture the creativity of established and emerging urban artists.
