Turner Classic Movies has launched a new "cult classic cinema" series, as it's billed, which started, appropriately enough, on Friday the 13th, hosted by metal monster/horror helmsman Rob Zombie. Ads from Leo Burnett, seen mainly in funky mags like Fangoria and Rue Morgue, boast a budget flyer feel, illustrated by a virtual unknown by the name of Mike Dixon, who was discovered by the creatives via one of his flyers for a local rock band. Somewhat underground himself, it was no easy matter to track down Dixon, but AD Victor LaPorte says it was worth the trouble because "we're always looking for this kind of 'authentic' artist," particularly for this kind of rough-edged work. "The audience is really good at detecting bullshit." Unlike auteur of awfulness Ed Wood, whose Plan 9 From Outer Space and Bride of the Monster kicked off the series.
