This Bizarre Culture Festival Spot Might Be the Most Arthouse-y Arthouse Film Ever

Brazil's Valongo International Image Festival Wonders Why You Didn't Know About It

Brazil's Valongo International Image Festival is trying to raise its profile for its second year, with a bizarre, gorgeously crafted spot that wonders why you didn't know the event was happening.

Directed by Giomi at Landia for agency Africa, the film revolves around a bald, androgynous character who is constantly asked in accusatory fashion by the narrator "where were you?"--i.e., why didn't he know the festival was going on.

It takes us through all sorts of scenarios as to why he wasn't there-- was he on Mars, on a sabbatical, stuck in a pit, freelancing as a monk or "hibernating among bears in the forests of Russia?"--but illustrates them in an off-the-wall, often overtly sexual way.

It's like the most arthousey arthouse movie ever-- but that's presumably the point, considering the festival's content and its likely audience. It takes place from Oct. 4 to 8 in Santos, Brazil, featuring exhibitions, talks, workshops, concerts and performances, with national and international guests. And now, you know about it.
