Ricky Gervais and Verizon Take the Piss Out of Mobile Providers' Questionable Claims

Comedian Applies His Dry Wit to Other Providers' Fine Print

Ricky Gervais and Verizon take a magnifying glass, literally, to other telecom providers' questionable marketing claims in a pair of new spots. In one ad, for example, the comedian examines a U.S. map that another company purports to illustrate its broad coverage, but, on closer inspection of the fine print, Mr. Gervais finds that "Map is not a depiction of coverage."

In another ad, Mr. Gervais looks closely at another provider's claim about being the "fastest," only to point out that it's the fastest in Kansas and a few other states, unlike Verizon, which is consistently the fastest across the country.

Verizon is the latest advertiser to take advantage of Mr. Gervais' dry humor. Previously, Aussie brand Optus tapped him to be its "brutally honest" pitchman.
