Mother New York worked on the design of Virgin Mobile's new flagship store in Chicago, which sets out to pay homage to Virgin's roots in live music and culture as well as re-imagining what a mobile store might look like.
The store includes a "rock n roll" themed living room area where customers can chill out on sofas, charge devices and surf free Wi-Fi while knocking back free espresso. Furniture and fixtures are made from real salvaged rock touring cases including a retired costume wardrobe once used by Guns "N" Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed. Other fixtures are made of heavy wood butcher blocks and black steel pipe, designed by Mother and manufactured locally by Chicago Scenic studios. The exterior sign is hand-painted over the existing rough facade by local artists.
