The Hot 40-Somethings in This VW Ad Aren't Meant to Make You Feel Bad

So What If They Make Your Dad Bod Looks Extra Dad?

Editor's Pick

If you're a little over the age of Millennial, this Volkswagen ad could be your worst nightmare.

It features scene upon scene of middle-aged men encountering peers so well-preserved they make their own dad bods stand out in relief: the suave gent who strides into his high school reunion, the DILF who picks his daughter up from school, the buff guy at the gym who can tackle double the weight of his younger counterparts or the soccer player who might even be sexier than Messi. To make things worse, a pensive cover of Alphaville's "Forever Young" plays in the background.

But the story, created out of DDB Argentina and directed by Landia's Luciano Podcaminsky, isn't designed to make guys feel bad. Rather, it's a call to action saying they, too, can feel young again -- that is, if they drive a Volkswagen Polo like these studs.

According to Mr. Podcaminsky, casting was actually one of the most difficult challenges of the job. "It was pretty difficult to find these guys that were able to perform humor, but at the same time they had to look like models. And you know that models are not the greatest performers most of the time."
