VW's Remote Journey Planner Foils a Mob Hit in Latest Cinema Sponsorship Spot

Once Again, Smart Tech Is Unsuitable for the Movies

Editor's Pick

Volkswagen once again shows how its smart technology is unsuitable for the movies in a new Mafia-themed spot, part of its series marking its sponsorship of independent cinema in the U.K.

Previous spots in the series, by Adam & Eve/DDB London, (which has included a "Speed"-inspired spot featuring a bus,) have focused on safety features, but this time it's the car's remote journey planner that foils the "Sopranos" style tension after two mob henchman pick up an associate for a ride. Director Nick Gordon at Somesuch nails the genre stylishly, and the denouement is perfect.

The new, and slightly tweaked, tagline, is "Not made for Hollywood. But happy to support independent cinemas" moving on from "Made for real life, not the movies." It's the first in a series of three "mini-movies" that will be released over the coming months.
