This VW Film Gives a Nervous Best Man a Second Chance to Make His Speech

Spot Promotes SUVs With Theme of Confidence Behind the Wheel

A new Volkswagen U.K. film promoting its range of SUVs, which centers on the idea of confidence behind the wheel, tracks down a real-life best man who was too nervous to give his speech and gives him a second chance.

Jordan Oldem was due to give the speech back in April, but, as captured on camera, failed to do so after he froze from nerves. Agency Adam & Eve/DDB London found him; according to the agency, the story was sourced via a casting scout who put out a call on social media to wedding photographers and videographers asking about speeches that had gone wrong. Together with director Max Fisher at Outsider, the agency drove him out to the countryside with the bride and groom to deliver the speech from behind the wheel of the VW Tiguan.

Sweta Dusara, communications manager at Volkswagen U.K., says in a statement: "Authenticity was key to expressing the insight that Volkswagen SUVs instill confidence in our drivers, so finding the right story to tell was critical. Jorden's story was perfect, real-to-life and relatable. I'm delighted that Jorden's redemption was so wonderfully enabled by Volkswagen."
