Welcome to 2036, and a first look at the rich, dark, interior world of "Blade Runner 2049."

A new prologue for the upcoming film is one of three shorts made on location during the main film shoot, all dramatizing fictional events that occur between the end of original cult sci-fi and the beginning of its sequel.

"Nexus Dawn" provides a tense and brutal demonstration of the extreme discipline that has been built into a new breed of replicant. Jared Leto's character claims ominously, "My replicants will never rebel. They will never run. They will simply obey."

For those who weren't there in 1982, the original film was set in 2019 and featured replicants -- indistinguishable from humans -- who worked in off-world colonies. Blade Runners were tasked with hunting down any who escaped.

"Nexus Dawn" was created by marketing agency 3AM, a partner company to Ridley Scott's RSA Films, which produced it, and was directed by Luke Scott, son of Ridley Scott, who directed the original "Blade Runne."

Ridley Scott is executive producer of "Blade Runner 2049," which is directed by Dennis Villeneuve, who is best known for 2016 Oscar-winner "Arrival."
