Canadian Airline Asks Passengers What They Want, Then Delivers It On Arrival

Will baggage claim be the vending machine of 2014? Hot on the heels of Zappos' Wheel Of Fortune game at the carousel, Canadian budget airline WestJet decided to play Santa and grant travelers their Christmas wishes, in a stunt that makes pre-holiday travel actually look fun.

WestJet invited passengers on two different flights to Calgary to speak to a virtual "Santa" via an interactive screen before they boarded the plane, and tell him want they were wanted for Christmas. Little did they know that on arrival at their destination, their requests would coming tumbling onto the baggage carousel, all neatly wrapped up. Some 150 WestJet employees rushed to retail partners BestBuy and CrossIron Mills while the plane was in the air and (perhaps this is the real miracle) managed to buy all the gifts requested -- including a snowboard, tablet computers and a big screen TV.

The airline promised that once the video hits 200,000 views on YouTube, it will start giving out free flights to families in need via its partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities. It's already reached over 900,000.

The activity was by PR agency Mosaic, with video produced by Studio M and Globacore Interactive Technologies handling the virtual Santa booth.
