Wrigley's Extra Recreates Its 'Sarah and Juan' Love Story With Real-Life Couple

Valentine's Film Follows Last Year's Epic Romance

Wrigley's Extra gum had us all bawling last year with The Story of Sarah and Juan, an epic love story about a couple who fall in love, part and reunite. That followed another tear-jerker, a touching father-daughter tale, in 2013, by the same agency, Energy BBDO.

Energy's latest heartstring-tugger is a docu-style spot that brings together a real-life couple, Jessica and Marcus, for a "Sarah and Juan"-style tale of love. It tells the story single windowed mother Jessica, and single father Marcus, who have known each other from kindergarten, and have found love second time around.

As in the original ad, it follows their romance in snippets--which Marcus and the pair's children illustrate on gum-wrappers, much in the style that Juan did in the original film. And, if you saw the first ad, you'll easily guess how the rest of this one plays out.

While not perhaps such an overt weepie as the fictional spot, it's a touching piece that will probably strike a chord with plenty of people who've found that first love need not be your only love.

The ad was directed by Sanctuary's Natalie Rae Robison and came out over the Valentine's weekend.
